Useful Networking! - A Lesson From MCA-i

I attended the meeting of the local Media Communications Association International this week and saw some great speakers. Grant from Geary Interactive and Alex from DigitalTelepathy talked about video on the web, and Web2.0 technologies. Liz from DUH! Marketing gave concrete and useful marketing tips.

One key takeaway was that networking (either virtual or traditional) is absolutely key to business success. However, the goal of networking isn't merely to meet as many people as possible, the goal is to make a connection. People do business with people they like, and networking is often your first chance to begin that relationship.

Drop me an email to so I can get some tips on how YOU network!

Race to the 'A'

Earlier this month, Groovy Like a Movie taught a week-long ‘Dudes Only' film camp at Monarch School (the San Diego Women's Film Foundation ran a camp for the Monarch grrls, and their films were awesome!). Because we had the 'dudes,' we (of course) had to make an action film. The finished film is now available on our blog!

Let us know what you think by leaving a comment on the blog. We'll pass your comments on to the students!

Fun, Free Classes by Groovy!

Groovy Like a Movie wants to remind you about our free service, The Media Moment. This series of classes is offered to all businesses in the San Diego area.

Take a moment to educate your staff on new media and how to use that media to improve communication with your internal and external clients. Help your sales, marketing, and training teams reach the next level, or just improve everyone's presentation skills.

We currently offer two classes:

PowerPoint that Rocks - Let's face it, most PowerPoint presentations are less than stellar. After years of sitting through miserable meetings, we decided it was time to do something about it.

High Definition Alphabet Soup - HDMI, 720P, MPEG2, Blue Ray, 1080i, HD-DVD, HUT, HUT, what? H.D. video is here, and with it comes a whole new language. Give us a Moment and we'll help you sort it all out.

People keep asking: 'Is it really free? What's your angle?' Yes, it is absolutely free, and the only 'angle' is a chance to meet you, share information and make a connection. Somewhere down the road, you may have a need for the corporate storytelling which is Groovy Like a Movie's primary focus, or you could know someone who has a need. When that happens, we hope you think 'hey... these guys gave away information that was truly useful to me. If they work that hard for free, I'll bet they kick serious tail when they receive a check!'
