And now for something completely different…

We don’t often have the opportunity to do a completely outside the box project here at Groovy.  While we always work hard to be creative and tell good stories for our clients, we are constrained by the project’s audience, the objective, and the “think, feel, do” of the project.  This one was different.  We were asked to help the San Diego Blood Bank decorate golf holes for their 2011 Transylvania Classic Golf Classic Tournament.  Their one and only requirement? Make it fun. So we did!

BIG thank you to everyone who helped make this project a success – especially the team at Titan Arts who brought a lot of humor and hard work to this short film.

Principal photography was on our RED One with second unit photography on our 5D MK II.  The project was written on Wednesday, shot on Thursday, edited on Friday, shown on Saturday.

I’m on the board of directors for SAFE – The San Diego Advertising Fund for Emergencies. SAFE is a volunteer, non-profit organization (501c3) dedicated to providing financial aid in life crisis situations to members of the San Diego County advertising and marketing community and their families. If you have been employed in the San Diego advertising industry (or one of the supporting industries like printing, graphic design, promotional products, etc) for a continuous period of three years and not absent from the field for more than one year, and you find yourself in a life crisis, you can apply for financial assistance from SAFE.

This is a project we produced for them to highlight one of their success stories.

The is a temp cut of some footage we shot for Fashion Career College in San Diego. We had a lot of fun with the models and fashion designers, and I think it shows in this piece.

What I find interesting about Mark’s talk is how wireless technology has infiltrated and improved industries that we don’t generally think of as high tech!

Health care is obviously a huge issue right now, and any technology that could transform the system in positive ways will be a huge benefit to everyone!

We’re proud to have partnered with Qualcomm, Inc to capture highlights from their 2009 Leadership Summit. I’m a bit of a technology geek, so it is really exciting when I’m allowed to get a sneak peek into what people are coming up with for the future.

We participated in the Navy Gold Coast conference in San Diego. This is the attract loop that played on the 60″ plasma screen in our booth. All footage shot on our RED One by Bill Heffley. Music is “Love Spreads” by The Stone Roses.

And in case you were wondering, we had the coolest booth there!

We’ve been working for over a year with the USS Midway Museum on an exhibit demonstrating the steam systems of the ship. This exhibit utilizes game theory to educate visitors in an entertaining and interactive manner. We partnered with Impact Communications and Mostre Design to create the finished product. Below are two samples of the many interactive videos we produced for the project.

Jacob, Dominic, and Ciani from Whirlwind Action came by the studio to discus an upcoming project. Bill had the RED ONE set up on the stage, so of course we had to see some moves in 120 frames per second!

A few caveats about this footage: we just turned on whatever lights happened to be set up, so the image is under lit (the RED was set to 1000 ISO), and if anyone ever sent me video like this and asked me to key it, I would beat them over the head with a KinoFlo.
