FCPx Multicam Audio Bug?

March 30th, 2012

I think most people know that I’m slowly becoming a fan of FCPx, and if Apple will continue to commit to adding critical features and squashing bugs, it won’t be long before I’m ready to flip the entire facility to FCPx.

But I’m not there yet – mainly because of the bugs.  Oh. Em. Effing. Gee.  THE BUGS.

Using FCPX 10.0.3, I came across a bug today that is subtle but annoying – having to do with multicam editing (which otherwise is really slick).  It appears that when you follow the normal multicam workflow, even if you tell FCPx to Enable Video Only Switching, when you cut between the multicam angles, you get a very brief gap in the audio.  In most situations, this gap might not even be noticeable – and I thought at first that my mind was playing tricks on me.  But after a bunch of testing (and by “testing” I mean “listening to the clip through headphones with my eyes closed”), I’ve confirmed that the audio gaps are real.

Take a listen to the video below and tell me what you hear!

Here’s a quick peek at what FCPx looks like:

So? What do you think?  Real bug or PBKAC?

  1. Did you find any solution to this problem?
    I have the same.

  2. OH GOOD, someone else who has muscled through with FCPx and is commenting on it!! You’re so right about the bugs and the amazing lack of documentation still has given me some pretty awesome headaches…

  3. Hey Jenn –

Keep working through it – while I’m still not 100% ready to switch over, I am really enjoying it (when I manage to avoid the bugs).

I found one of the best resources for learning FCPx is Larry Jordan’s training series. I bought that on day 1 of buying FCPx, and still find myself referring to it when I need a refresher on a feature I don’t regularly use.

  4. Has anyone found a fix to it? I recorded a 40min sitdown interview with 60d and T2i, audio was from Zom H1 positioned between them. There’s a clear gap and very distraction I have FCP 1.0.4

  5. There is a workaround for this issue.
You’ll need to turn off “background noise reduction” in the multicam clip

  6. ORLY?

    /running to FCPX

Holy $#!* it works. Nice find!

  7. [...] you have a problem with audio dropouts while editing MultiCam in FCPx (see my earlier blog post), you can solve that problem by turning off all “Audio Enhancements” in your multicam [...]
